Comments: Preserved in the Museo de Aeropuertos y Transporte Aereo, Malaga, with the local brewery prominent in the background. This aircraft was delivered to the USAAF in August 1945, just after the war ended, and saw extensive service at various Asian (Kadena, Haneda, Itami, Ashiya, Osan) and US (Hickam, Norton, Hamilton, Palm Beach) bases until it was retired to Davis-Monthan AFB in 1960. Charlotte Aircraft acquired it as N86442 and in 1970 it was sold to the Spanish AF as T.3-50. In 1978 it was bought by civilian operator Aerotransporte de España as EC-CPO. It was withdrawn from use at Alicante in 1980 and eventually ended up dumped at Zaragoza from 1992 to 2002. It has been restored for display to represent the first Iberia DC-3 to land at Malaga. |
